Senior fall statistics

Home Safety and Modifications

Falls can trip up people of all ages, but according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, most falls happen to people age 65 and older during everyday activities in the home. The F1RST Home Safety and Modifications task group has put together valuable information to reduce your risk or your loved one's risk of falling.

At F1RST, we are very excited to have created a DVD titled "Simple Changes Can Keep You Safe Where You Live." You can view the video in its entirety below.

Guided Home Safety Checklist

Students from Creighton University and University of Nebraska at Omaha are able to walk through a home safety checklist, and provide feedback on changes needed to create a safer environment. If you or someone you care for could benefit from this service, please call (402)898-7358, or e-mail the F1RST Program Manager.

F1RST also maintains a directory of providers for Home Modifications and other services to assist in lessening the risks of falls throughout the home.

Feel free to download our printable Safety Checklist, developed by the Minnesota Safety Council.
